Health Net is an insurance provider covering nearly 6 million Americans across the United States by way of HMO, PPO, POS, and government subsidiary corporations. This network provides access to health care benefits in the form of group and individual plans, as well as through Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE and Veterans Affairs insurance programs. The company has two headquarters located in St. Louis, MO, and Woodland Hills, CA, just outside of Los Angeles.
Health Net Groups
The Health Net insurance network is comprised of a number subsidiary services, each one offering various forms of health insurance coverage from private plans to government-sponsored programs. Each of these major components works in concert with one another to offer one of the most well-rounded and acclaimed portfolio of healthcare products in the United States. Each division offers its services to various regions of the country since every group is not available in all 50 states.
Health Net Insurance Group
This division of the Health Net network provides individual and family insurance plans, group and corporate plans, and Medicare coverage in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington state. They also have a range of programs in the state of California including Medicaid, Medi-Cal, and insurance coverage provided through welfare programs for both individuals and families with children under the age of 19.
The plans that Health Net Insurance offers range from Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), and Health Savings Account (HSA) choices along with short-term plans. These allow individuals and families the ability to obtain minimum sufficient coverage until such time that an open enrollment period commences or a special enrollment qualifying event is triggered. They also offer the “Salud” plan, health insurance coverage that is designed for Hispanic consumers.
Health Net Federal Services (HNFS)
Health Net Federal Services Incorporated is the government insurance program division of the Health Net provider network. The HNFS works with the Department of Defense to offer health coverage to servicemen and women and their families as part of the TRICARE program.
There are currently over 2.9 million beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE North Region as served by Health Net Federal Services providing health insurance to active duty, retired, and National Guard and Reserve service members and family members. Health Net has been the TRICARE North Region provider since July, 2004.
TRICARE is the official healthcare program designed for active duty and retired service members and their families. It is available to all qualifying military personnel throughout the world by way of a partnership between the Defense Health Agency, TRICARE regional offices, and civilian managed care healthcare contractors.
Health Net Federal Services serves as the managed care contractor for the North Region serving the following 21 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
In addition to being the managed care support for TRICARE North Region, the Department of Defense awarded Health Net Federal Services the contract to provide similar support for the TRICARE West Region beginning in 2017. Health Net Federal Services will come on for a base contract period and five one-year optional extensions.
The program is expected to serve nearly three million eligible beneficiaries in the following 21 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa (Rock Island Arsenal area excluded), Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, (St. Louis area excluded), Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas (Western regions only), Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
Health Net Dental
This division of the Health Net family provides dental plan coverage for Medi-Cal members in California, specifically Los Angeles and Sacramento counties. This subsidiary is the only current Medi-Cal plan currently offered in these regions for dental and medical coverage to those who are enrolled in the state’s Medi-Cal and Healthy Families programs, intended to cover families with children 19 years or under.
All residents with no cost Medi-Cal, or those who wish to change from their current Medi-Cal managed dental plan, or wish to change from their fee-for-service dental services or Denti-Cal plan and currently reside in Los Angeles and Sacramento county are eligible.
The division’s group of in-network health and dental providers is one of the largest in California. All enrolled members under Los Angeles and Sacramento state-sponsored Medi-Cal programs are assigned to a primary care dentist who will handle all general dental care and they may also be eligible for additional specialist care when referred by that member’s primary care dentist.
Managed Health Network
MHN is Health Net’s behavioral health services division and offers employee assistance and behavioral health programs along with organizational development and wellness services. All of these are designed to increase employee productivity and organizational efficiency with an aim towards promoting wellness and fostering a smarter and healthier balance between one’s work and one’s life. Managed Health Network has over thirty years of experience in the mental and behavioral health industry and services commercial, affiliate, and government clients.
This division has partnered with some of the largest and most respected behavioral health groups in the country to raise awareness and establish best practices surrounding behavioral health issues. Some of the groups that MHN collaborates with are the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness (ABHW), the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH), and the California Association of Health Plans (CAHP).
In addition, Managed Health Network is part of the Health Utilization Management and Health Network and the group is accredited by URAC for its work in providing high quality care for mental health and chemical dependency treatment. MHN has also received a license under the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act.
Managed Health Network offers a wide range of programs and services dedicated to treating mental health issues, substance abuse disorders and dependency through non-medical counseling, management consultation, and wellness coaching. The group also provides training, consulting, and organizational development services. Online components are available that offer network members access to emotional health and work-life programs, educational tools and general health and wellness information for behavioral and mental health.
