Enrollment opens in the fall of 2016, most likely in October. At this time, anyone under the age of 65 will be able to sign up for ACA/Obamacare health insurance plans. These plans will begin coverage in January 2017.
- Special Enrollment: All year
If you have experienced a major life event (such as marriage, child birth, job loss) you could possibly qualify for a special enrollment for ACA/Obamacare health insurance plans. You will have 60 days from the date of the special event to enroll.
- Tax Penalty (if uninsured in 2015): Due when filing income taxes
If you did not have health insurance for over 3 months anytime during 2015 you may be required to pay an additional penalty when you file your 2015 income taxes. There are many ways receive an exemption, particularly for low income individuals. If you believe you may be penalized, you can estimate the amount here.
Many people, after signing up through the health insurance marketplace, are required to submit additional information or documentation. This information could be related to citizenship, job status, household size, family income or something else. To determine the due dates for any information that may be required of you, you should be able to access your Eligibility Form on healthcare.gov by using your username and password to log in to your account.
